Supermarket by Bobby Hall

Three words. What. The. F***.

And I mean that in the best way possible! Supermarket was unlike any book I’ve ever read before. It felt like I wasn’t even just reading a book, it felt like I was reading a book within a book...that was somehow within another book?!

Before I go further, I want to first thank my sister, Olympia, for recommending this book to me without providing any context on what it was about. And in a similar fashion, I want to do the same for you.

Yes, I highly recommend this book, but I’m not going to tell you anything about the plot. Starting this book, I had no idea what it was about, and I’m glad I didn’t. By not having a clue about what I was getting into, I was able to be truly surprised at every turn of a page.

This book was exciting, confusing, thought-provoking, completely insane, and, at times, left me completely speechless. This is Bobby Hall’s debut novel, but you probably know him as the Grammy-nominated rapper, Logic

Now, if you’ve listened to Logic’s music, then you might be able to see how his music and lyrics can translate into his style of writing. It’s deep, and intellectual, yet still manages to keep you highly entertained and on the edge of your seat. He’s got a true talent for calling attention to controversial and underrepresented ideas, in a way that intrigues audiences who would have otherwise been uninterested.

I’ve never been mind-f***ed by a book before, but I certainly was while reading this one. And that’s all I’m going to say on that.

Definitely go check out this book, and if you do, leave a comment below or on my social media letting me know your thoughts.

Oh, did I mention Logic has an entire soundtrack for this book? Yeah, pretty dope. Check that out too.

My overall rating: 5/5
