That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf Book Review

Book 2 of the Mead Mishaps Series by Kimberly Lemming

Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐️

I couldn’t wait to dive into book two of Kimberly Lemming’s chaotic and charming Mead Mishaps series—and honestly, the title alone had me giggling before I even cracked the cover. After That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon delivered a hilarious, spicy, and surprisingly heartfelt adventure, I was excited to see where Lemming would take us next. In That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf, we follow Brie (yes, like the cheese), a local cheesemonger who accidentally love-potions herself into a whirlwind romance with Felix, a broody werewolf with golden retriever energy. And yes, it’s just as wild as it sounds.

Let’s pause for a second to appreciate one of my favorite whimsical details in this series: the FMCs are named after foods, and their names align perfectly with their jobs. Cinnamon is from a spice-farming family. Brie owns a cheese shop. It’s a small detail, but it’s the kind of cozy, clever worldbuilding that makes this universe feel so fun and intentional. These aren’t just quirky names, they’re part of the fabric of the characters, and I live for it.

Now onto the romance itself. Brie and Felix are very cute together, and I was absolutely rooting for them as individuals. But their relationship leaned more on the spicy side than emotional connection. I found myself wishing for more depth and development in their bond, especially because the premise revolves around a literal love potion. Sure, there’s some built-in logic for insta-lust, but I still wanted more moments that made their love feel earned.

The plot, while still present, took more of a backseat in this installment. I missed the high-stakes adventure and tight integration of romance and quest that made book one so satisfying. The “yeeting” incident that kicks off the story is funny, but the actual journey that follows felt a little light, like the story didn’t quite know if it wanted to lean fully into fantasy or romcom territory.

All that said, I still had a great time reading this. Brie is a lovable, strong-yet-vulnerable Black heroine (something Kimberly Lemming continues to do beautifully), and Felix is a cinnamon roll werewolf with a protective streak. And major points for bringing back Fallon, Cinnamon, Usha, and the whole crew—it made the world feel cohesive and alive.

So while this wasn’t a five-star for me, I still devoured it quickly and found plenty to enjoy. If you loved book one, this is a solid follow-up—just don’t expect quite the same level of adventure or emotional payoff. I’ll absolutely be continuing the series, though. With titles like these and characters this ridiculous and lovable? How could I not?
