The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston

The book where love comes when the past meets the present and the present meets the past.

The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston takes place in the enchanting backdrop of New York City, a setting I personally adore for its romantic vibes. As a fan of romance movies and comedies that often unfold in the Big Apple, I was naturally drawn to this book.

The story revolves around Clementine, an overworked book publicist who recently lost her beloved Aunt Analea but inherited her extraordinary and magical apartment in the process. What makes this apartment so magical? Well, that's a secret you'll have to uncover in the book. Though, in a nutshell, it possesses the power to transport its inhabitant seven years into the past, opening the door to love and thrilling adventures.

While it took me a few chapters to fully immerse myself in the story, I soon found myself completely captivated and breezed through the book. Clementine, the protagonist, shares the same name as one of my sister's cats, which added a fun coincidence. She's a woman in her late twenties, navigating life as a book publicist in the bustling city of New York while grappling with her own struggles in love. It's a classic recipe for a romance protagonist, isn't it?

Enter Iwan, her love interest—a sweet, southern boy with a passion for cooking, baking, and making his grandad proud. Through his help, Clementine breaks free from her shell and the patterns she has been trapped in for the past seven years.

What I truly adored about this book is that it defied my expectations. The synopsis provided just enough information to pique my interest without giving too much away. It allowed me to embark on a journey where I could relate to the characters and root for them, even when they made questionable decisions. Furthermore, it tapped into the fantasies many girls when they’re young, including myself, harbor—the dream of being whisked away to a magical place where love unfolds.

As an author of a magical book myself, I have a deep appreciation for stories that incorporate unexplained magic. Sometimes, it's better to simply embrace the magic without needing every detail explained. The Seven Year Slip embodies this sentiment.

The whimsical atmosphere and the magical circumstances that bring Clementine and Iwan together are the highlights of the story. In fact, I yearned for even more interactions between them, as their love story was truly captivating. If there's one aspect I would change about this book, it would be to have more scenes that deepen the connection between Clementine and Iwan. Nonetheless, considering this is my only complaint, it's safe to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The fact that I devoured it within a few hours speaks volumes. However, to truly appreciate the wonders of this magical love story, I encourage you to experience it for yourself.

The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston was released on June 27 and is available on platforms like Amazon and other bookstores. Give this book a chance, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.
