When I Think of You by Myah Ariel

The book where a second chance romance gets the Hollywood treatment.

In her debut novel, “When I Think of You,” Myah Ariel* captures the enthralling complexity of reignited love in the fast-paced world of Hollywood. The narrative introduces us to Kaliya Wilson, a determined woman who has spent years behind the reception desk of a glamorous film studio, watching her dream of movie-making slip further away. That is until Danny Prescott, her college sweetheart whose own career is in ascent, reenters her life with an offer that could elevate her career but also reopen old wounds. As Kaliya grapples with the stirring memories of their past love and the uncertainties of a shared future, she faces Hollywood's cutthroat politics and the looming threat of scandal.

“When I Think of You” by Myah Ariel has quickly ascended to the top of my favorites list this year, captivating me with its charming portrayal of second-chance romance amidst the glamorous backdrop of Los Angeles. The tale of Kaliyah and Danny is not just a romance; it's a journey of rediscovery and second chances—a theme I usually approach with skepticism, yet this novel won me over completely.

Both characters are brilliantly crafted, with their individualities and shared chemistry lighting up the pages. Although I found myself questioning some of Kaliyah's choices, I grew to respect her decisions as they rang true to her character. My connection with them felt almost predestined, reminiscent of people I might have crossed paths with during my own ventures through LA and loose associations and ties to the film industry in Hollywood. The authenticity of their experiences, from the challenges of an age gap to navigating the complexities of their industry, resonated deeply with me.

Myah Ariel’s writing made me feel a spectrum of emotions alongside the characters—joy, shame, embarrassment, triumph, and deep love. At points, her vivid storytelling even had the audacity to move me to tears, something I haven’t done because of a book in a while!

After all of the tears, laughs, and smirks I had while reading this book, I have no other choice but to happily rate this a 9/10. I am eagerly awaiting what Myah Ariel will bring us next. Her initial launch into literature is a resounding success, and I'm already on the edge of my seat waiting for her next work.

I do highly recommend reading this book if you’re a fan of black romance where the female lead gets the loving she deserves, or if you’re a fan of love stories that center around characters in their late twenties/early thirties. I would also say that this book pairs best with a slice of peach pie and “Agape” by Nicholas Britell playing in the background, enhancing the immersive experience.

“When I Think of You” by Myah Ariel is now available at your favorite bookstores and online platforms. Dive into this enchanting Hollywood romance and let me know your thoughts!
