How to Host a Carrie-Themed Halloween Party

No horror fan can go through prom season without thinking of the quintessential prom movie, Carrie (1976)-- sorry, I’m not talking about the 2013 remake with Chloë Grace Moretz. I’m talking about Stephen King’s classic 70s thriller and one of the few book-to-screen adaptations that turned out well!

Now, it may not be prom season anymore, but whether it’s Summerween or Halloween time, you can’t argue with me that Carrie is a classic horror film that should be celebrated! I love a good themed party and I love a good Halloween party, so in this latest installment of How to Host themed Halloween Parties, I give you a Carrie Halloween Party guide. If you’re interested in more Halloween party ideas, make sure to check out the Hocus Pocus Party guide and the Coraline Party guide on the blog!

This specific themed party was inspired by a dear friend of mine for a Summerween event, but I may have to do this party again and host one for Halloween! Nevertheless, let’s grab our bloodied crowns and get into the party guide.

Menu

Main Course

I love meatballs! They’re so easy to make and they’re so easy to enjoy. Plus, my husband is a pescatarian, and meatballs are an easy food to make vegetarian, all you have to do is use Impossible or Beyond meat. You could buy the pre-made meatballs, but it’s cheaper to buy impossible grounds, then season and roll them yourself.

I used Impossible Grounds, as well as a separate batch of ground beef, seasoned with Italian Seasoning to make my meatballs. Then, I cooked them at 375°F for about 20 -30 minutes. Once they were done, I tossed them in Rao’s pasta sauce and placed them in a serving dish with toothpicks. Easy, delicious, “bloody” meatballs!

Sides

Carrie’s mom might have been afraid of the devil, but honestly, no one can rip me away from a deviled egg if they tried! That’s why the perfect side dish for your Carrie Halloween party is deviled eggs. They’re on theme, and always a hit at any party–especially for Summerween!

I’ve been making deviled eggs for as long as I can remember, so I always wing my recipe, but if you’re new to this dish, you can check out this classic deviled eggs recipe.

Drink

Three words: Blood Bag Cocktail.

Okay, that sounds totally wild, but trust me when I tell you that it’s a lot tastier than it sounds! First, you’ll want to get yourself some blood bag drink pouches, and then fill them with your cocktail mix. You can use whatever liquids will get you a red beverage, but my favorite concoction includes cranberry juice cocktail, lime juice, and tequila blanco.

Of course, this can easily be turned into a mocktail if you remove the tequila and replace it with Sprite or ginger ale. Eyeball the recipe or get instructions for the IV Blood Bag Cocktail here.

Dessert

Shocker! The dessert is also blood-themed. If you’ve seen Carrie or read it, you know blood is kind of important. I suppose these items would also go well with a vampire-themed party, but we’re talking about Carrie today!

This is why I was inspired by a bizarre, fever-dream of a YouTube video I watched as a kid and decided to make Blood Muffins. Again, don’t be scared off yet. These are simple, strawberry muffins that you can keep as is, or add a little red dye to make them look even bloodier! The strawberries do a nice job of giving the muffin a gooey, red texture and they’re 10/10 delicious!

Set the Vibe

There’s only one way to set the vibe for your Carrie Halloween Party, and that’s by going with a prom theme! Not just any prom, but a 70s, bloody prom! Hang red, glittery streamers on the walls, hang a fake bucket of blood from the ceiling, encourage your guests to come dressed in their best prom attire, and of course, crown someone queen!
