I Cut My Boyfriend’s Hair for the First Time…

And it honestly doesn’t look too bad!

I have to say, I was *very* nervous to cut Arjuna’s (my boyfriend) hair. Will he be completely bald when I’m done? What if he hates it? Am I going to cut off a chunk of his ear? How can I avoid knicking his neck? Will there be blood????

Okay, maybe some of those worries were more reasonable than others, but still. My boyfriend has gorgeous, silky, curly hair and I seriously didn’t want to screw that up and make him regret asking me to cut his hair. Luckily for me, he’s had a deep buzz cut before and looked good in that, so worst-case-scenario, we could completely shave his head if my cut was horrible.

Bu, despite all of my fears, his hair came out well! Even better news, I didn’t cut him! I might’ve accidentally poked his butt with the clippers when I went to take off some of the excess hair from the head of the clippers, but that’s not important...The important thing here is that I was able to give Arjuna a salon-worthy haircut with only two YouTube videos as guidance.

Showing you how to do a simple men's cut. It's nothing too fancy, but it's an easy way to clean up their hair at home. I hope this is helpful! If you like it...

The first video I used was probably the best video I watched. It was recently filmed and of good quality.

I mainly used this one to understand the actual technique and strategy of cutting a man’s hair. I liked how she instructed me on where to start on the head, how to maneuver the head, and basically how to do the actual cutting. Super helpful. But when I went to actually take the clippers out of the box and put things together, I realized I had no idea what to do with the safeties and the clippers! So, I had to turn to another Youtube video to show me how to set up the clippers themself.

Step by step, easy to follow directions. How to do a men's or boy's fade hair cut with clippers.Supplies: Clippers, Edgers, Scissors, Cape, Water Bottle, Ti...

Though this video isn’t in the 1080p I’m so used to, it was still very helpful. I truly couldn’t have gotten started without this video, so thank you for that!

With my hand-dandy videos on display, I was feeling much more confident. I also got even more confidence from Arjuna himself as he trusted me to do this and had faith that I’d do a good job!

It took me about an hour to do a 15-minute cut, but hey, there was no blood and he looked handsome as ever afterward!

I’m super happy that I finally got my first cut out of the way, and feel even more confident in my abilities to cut Arjuna’s hair again in the future. I’m definitely a learn-by-doing type of person, so the more cuts I do, the better I’ll be.

Aside from the fact that I’ve learned a new skill, I also got to spend some much-appreciated quality time with my boyfriend. Who knew holding a dangerous weapon to my boyfriend’s scalp could be so intimate! LMAO. But seriously, it was a great activity to foster more trust in each other, have some great, uninterrupted conversation, and just be together. I also really enjoyed that it was another “first” for us. With quarantine, so many couples struggle to try new things because they can’t go out and take a class together or do an outdoor activity. Couples are having to get a bit more creative in their dates and doing new things together, so, if you’re up to it, I recommend cutting your partner’s hair! It takes a lot of trust and confidence in one another, but it’s a great way to bond and do something new together.
