3 Reasons to do a Horror Escape Room

I love escape rooms and I love horror movies! Naturally, I was curious if I’d enjoy a horror escape room. I wanted to use this spooky season to find out, so I turned to my favorite escape room in Los Angeles, 60Out Escape Rooms!

60Out has a ton of different escape rooms all throughout LA, but when I went to their website, I hit the “Horror” filter and found six horror escape rooms near me–Doctor Psycho, Ghost Ship, Dracula, The Orphanage, The Mystery of Senator Payne, and Amityville. These six rooms range from easy to hard, but since I wasn’t sure how I’d perform in a horror escape room, I opted to go for easy rooms.

I grabbed my fiance, and my soon-to-be brother and sister-in-law and took them to The Orphanage escape room at the 60Out K-town location, then, my fiance and I brought two of our friends to the Amityville escape room at the Silver Lake location. I was familiar with both movies before doing the rooms, so I thought that would give me an advantage…it didn’t. There were a couple of jump scares, creepy moving objects, and sinister details. It was super dark and eerie, and I was definitely scared! Luckily, the boys were the brave ones and took lead in the spooky moments, which included crawling through multiple dark areas…eek! Despite how scared I was, we were still able to escape within the allotted time frame, and with very few clues. That’s definitely a win in my book!

If that wasn’t enough to convince you that horror escape rooms are awesome, here are three reasons to do a horror escape room this Halloween.

No. 1 - Be a part of your favorite horror movies.

Why sit and watch a horror movie, when you can be part of one? 60out horror escape rooms like Amityville and The Orphanage place you right in the middle of some classic scary movies. It’s the perfect place to find out exactly how you’d react if you were being chased by a killer or caught in unfavorable circumstances.

No. 2 - Bond with your friends over some Halloween spooks.

Nothing says “friendship” and “trust” quite like trapping yourselves inside a dark, scary room with 4-8 of your closest friends and trying to escape with only a few clues. A horror escape room will have you learning more about each other as you see who steps up to take the lead, and who shies away from the jump scares.

No. 3 - It’s the ultimate haunted house.

National Haunted House Day is on October 14 every year, which means it’s right around the corner (or it just passed, depending on when you’re reading this). Regular haunted houses are fun and all, but they only last a few minutes, whereas horror escape rooms are like haunted houses that last for up to an hour to give you maximum scares! Zombies lurking around the corner are scary, but it’s even scarier when you don’t know the way out!

Fun Fact: James Corden and Ariana Grande went to the 60Out Escape Room where we did The Orphanage to film this segment from the show!

If you weren’t interested in horror escape rooms before, I hope you are now! But, if you still aren’t 60Out has plenty of other, non-scary escape rooms, including Jumanji, Casino Heist, Hyde Circus, Grandma’s Masterplan, and Alice in Wonderland (just to name a few). 60out has locations all over the city so you’ll always be able to find one near you. No two locations are the same, but they’re all so much fun!
