Welcome to Spooky Season 2023

I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been counting the dreadfully hot days to get to Spooky Season! Something about this summer felt longer, hotter, and slower than usual, but whatever! The past is in the past, and though, technically, the beginning of Fall isn’t until September 23 this year, September 1 is the beginning of Spooky Season and that’s reason enough for me to celebrate!

Anyway, I’ve been waiting for this season for what feels like an eternity, and now that it’s here, I have so much that I want to do! I’ve been vicariously living through Darling Desi because she has the most swoon-worthy Autumnal YouTube channel I’ve ever seen, and that’s what I’ve been living off of for the last bits of summer. I’ve also been getting inspired by Chic on the Cheap and Jade the Libra.

And, as I’m writing this, I’m realizing I desperately need to find some more WOC Autumnal content creators & YouTubers ASAP! If you have any recommendations for me, please leave their names or handles in the comments of this blog!

Moving on, I mentioned I have a lot that I want to do this Spooky Season! Everything from hosting friends for a “Welcome to Autumn” day of activities to taking baking my way through the season! Here’s what I’ve got on my Spooky Season Bucket List so far:

  • Bring in the Autumn Season with my besties

  • Re-watch all of the Harry Potter movies

  • Sort out my top 10 Halloween Movies of all time

  • Do something that scares me, in honor of the spookiness of the season

  • Attend as many Halloween events in Los Angeles as I reasonably can

  • Try out new recipes from my spooky season cookbooks

  • Go on an Autumn picnic

  • Wear cute, Autumn outfits so I can embrace Cool Girl Autumn

  • Continue learning Tarot

  • Go to a Pumpkin Patch & actually carve my pumpkins this year

I’ve seen so many Autumn bucket lists and spooky season bucket lists online, and so many include activities that aren’t meant for me, like “walk through the woods,” “step on crunchy leaves” or “visit an ancient cemetery,” which would be so much fun for me…if I lived in New England. But let’s be real! I live in the heart of Los Angeles and the most autumn vibes I get here are when I go to Halloween events, urban pumpkin patches, or drive 2 hours outside the city to the mountains! So, I made my Autumn bucket list realistic for myself, and also for anyone else who lives in a major city or Los Angeles.

I’m super satisfied with the list I’ve made for myself, and I feel like it’s actually quite achievable. I’ll keep you all posted on the status of my bucket list throughout Spooky Season on my Instagram, TikTok, and maybe even YouTube pages this year! Then, I’ll give a full recap of the season on my blog at the end of October or the beginning of November.

For now, Happy Spooky Season! Don’t forget to follow me on socials and recommend a WOC/BIPOC YouTuber or Content Creator that’s all about Spooky Season or Autumn Vibes in the comments section below!
