Beach Read by Emily Henry Book Review
As cheesy as it was, I truly enjoyed reading Beach Read by Emily Henry!
Because it’s January and we just got out of an extended spooky season, the Borderline Millennials Book Club has finally set down the horror, thriller, and mystery books! Don’t get me wrong, this book club has made me LOVE a good thriller and suspense novel, but it is incredibly refreshing to read a book that is truly lighthearted!
If I could describe Beach Read in short, it would be a “palette cleanser.” My soul and heart both feel refreshed after reading this book because it’s such a feel-good! I never found myself stressed by what was going to happen next, but rather, I looked forward to reading the next chapter because I knew it was going to be sweet and endearing! Sure, a few moments got unexpectedly dark (suicide cult?? Like, wow. That came out of left field for me) and other moments got expectedly incredibly cheesy (literally Chapter 22 in its entirety), but nevertheless, I got exactly what I was hoping for from this book.
I wanted a fresh, pure, and nice start to the year, and reading Beach Read in January did just the trick!
Given the overall joy I felt reading this book, smiles I cracked as I noticed instances where Augustus and January were falling in love, and straight-up chuckles that escaped from me when the flirting was too much to handle, I’d like to rate this book fairly highly. There were some things that didn’t exactly make sense within the plot, and certain scenes carried on waaaay too long (I’m looking at you, chapter full of Dad’s letters), but those weren’t bad enough for me to rate this book poorly.
With all that being said, my overall rating for Beach Read by Emily Henry is a ⅘!
