Set On You by Amy Lea (Sneak Peek!)

No teasers here, because I want to tell you straight up that I LOVED reading Set On You by Amy Lea!

There, I said it! I am a Rom-Com lover and I am not ashamed! I love the blushing moments, the sweet but unnecessary serenades, and of course, the romantic (and other) tension between two star-crossed lovers!

I especially loved all of that and so much more in Amy Lea’s upcoming, debut romantic novel, Set On You! Don’t worry, this review is spoiler-free, so do read on!

I was rooting for her in the times she was feeling confident, in the times where she wasn’t rooting for herself, and even during the times when she was being such a brat that I wish I wasn’t rooting for her but knew I had to!

Here’s my one-sentence synopsis of Set On You that won’t give away any of the good parts! Set On You follows the life of Crystal Chen, a curvy girl fitness influencer, as she navigates self-acceptance and society's expectations of what love should look like with her steamy, Chris Evans-Esque, firefighter swolemate, Scott Ritchie!

This book has all of the juicy scenes and romantic montages that I could hope for and expect from a young adult romance novel. There were literally moments where I felt like I was blushing and I would catch myself grinning reading certain chapters! I was instantly captivated by this novel from the very beginning when I learned about Crystal’s career and relationship woes.

About Set On You by Amy Lea

I’m no influencer, well, maybe a micro, micro-influencer, but I’m nowhere near the level of influencer that Crystal is at! But, I am a naturally curvy girl who enjoys working out and has questioned the body type of men she “should” date. I’m not proud of it, but it did give me something personal to hold on and relate to while reading Set On You. I saw myself in Crystal and I found her to be both relatable and extremely likable!

All of this just made me root for her the entire time I was reading this book. I was rooting for her in the times she was feeling confident, in the times where she wasn’t rooting for herself, and even during the times when she was being such a brat that I wish I wasn’t rooting for her but knew I had to!

Main character aside, I also loved the way Amy Lea wrote this book. She took the classic sequence and path of a RomCom and modernized it just enough to where the story felt incredibly relevant, but also like a hug from one of my favorite 2000s RomComs like A Cinderella Story and What a Girl Wants.

I flew through this book and never wanted to put it down. The only time I took a pause was when I looked up at the clock and saw it was 1:00 am on a Tuesday! Yeah, it’s that type of a good read!

I feel like if I write any further, I’m going to want to start discussing details that may spoil some parts of the book, so let me stop right here. I’ll leave this Set On You review with my official rating!

After receiving and reading this advance copy of Set On You by Amy Lea, I give this book a strong 5/5! I would highly recommend this book for any lover of 2000s and 2010s RomComs, curvy girls who have never read a romance book where someone like them is the star, and anyone who just wants to read a feel-good, love-filled, light-hearted, and flirty book!

You can read Amy Lea’s Set On You when it’s released on May 10, 2022! In the meantime, check out Amy Leah's website for more info about her work and inspiration for Set On You!
